I wouldn't do it. The reason? I have done it before, and the life of the second roof was shortened by the heat build-up. So did I save any money? No, now I have a third roof on the property and had to pull the first 2 off before the third went on. In the long run it would have been cheaper to pull each roof off and then I'd probably still be on the second roof.

Very easy to do, unscrew the screws, and see what you have there, I'm guessing there could be maybe up to 4 holes there, or maybe some missing shingles. If its just holes, use black chalking, in the holes. Done deal. If its a matter of lifting up maybe two or three shingles, install some black tar paper, cut your shingles to fit, make sure you unlap them to prevent leaks. Should take no more than an hour.

I bought the My Shed Plans package about 5 months ago and found this package to be very useful for me. What I really liked best about My Shed Plans Elite is that it saves me a lot of time and money on my projects. I also liked that Ryan Henderson (the author My Shed Plans Elite) added a great material list so that you will know exactly what to buy. No longer will you be wasting money on buying the wrong materials.

if you are going to go threw the expense of putting on a new roof you may as well do it correctly and tear off the old roof. having a flat surface is best for to adhere themselves to the roof thus making it last longer. if you are trying to get out of the expense of having to do it again consider metal roofing yes it is more expensive but the metal roofing last 2 to 3 times longer than !

Several years ago we re-did our pool bath. I chose some Kohler fixtures that were also rectangular. I found the towel bars and a few other extras were just too expensive and was happy to find some at Pottery Barn for a fraction of the cost. It came together very well. If you are looking to save money consider Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, etc. I bought the mirror at Pottery Barn too and the light fixtures at Restoration Hardware. If you haven't chosen the counter, I saw a great article on recycle glass counters. Amazing colors and really eco-friendly.

Removing all of the old shingles before installing new ones is very important. Multiple layers of shingles create unnecessary weight on the roof, and you also should inspect the roof deck for decay or damage. There are tools made specifically for removing shingles. You can also use a flat shovel to pry the shingles from the roof. BE SURE TO GET ALL THE NAILS OUT!! Replacing a roof is a big job you will probably need several helpers.

Look in your yellow pages for "roofing contractor". This is not the type of job you want to take on if you don't know what you are doing. Expect to pay between $100-150/square (100 square feet) as a base price. Add for any sheets of plywood that need to be replaced, which they won't know until the old shingles are off. Also add if the roof is particularly steep, if you need a lot of flashing, etc.

You can add a 2nd layer, but I wish I knew what the type / reason for your repairs. If the roofer uses the existing correctly it won't have to be replaced. If he buries it water will continue to run over the old roof and under the new. On my house the last roofer did this before we owned it and it caused a lot of damage to the rafters, sheathing, and siding. What I tell my customers is 1) the cost of disposal will continue to go up, it will cost you more when it needs the next roof. What will your financial situation be like in 20-30 years? 2) It's better for the new roof, it will last longer, lay flatter, and look better. 3) By starting with a clean slate I can guaranty that it is done correctly. This last part is especially important if you have had hard to fix mystery leaks that deify solving, and need repeated repair attempts. So, I guess what I am saying is if you can afford to rip the old layer of now it will be better in the long run and cheaper in the long run too.
